Steelers Fans Get Troubling News About Rookie Germie Bernard's Relationship With Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are a team that has struggled at the wide receiver position over the last several seasons. There has always been talent at the top of the room, but the depth and numbers of options that would actually scare a defense has been minimal as of late. This made it easy for opposing defenses to take players like DK Metcalf or George Pickens out of games, which is why the organization went out and upgraded the room during the 2026 offseason. The Steelers acquired veteran wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. via trade, and the franchise also moved up in the second round of the draft to acquire Germie Bernard.

The Steelers' wide receiver room is the deepest it has been in years with Metcalf and Pittman leading the way. Bernard is alsoan intriguing rookie that was praised by his teammates throughout the spring. However, one name some fans are forgetting about is Roman Wilson

He is entering his third season in the NFL after being a third-round pick back in 2024, and reports involving him have been glowing out of training camp. He and Bernard are going to be battling for the third wide receiver spot in camp and the preseason, and, so far, Wilson has been impressing.

Beat writer Ray Fittipaldo joined 93.7 The Fan to discuss the upcoming season and what the depth chart might look like, and he seems to have confidence in Wilson. The young wideout has been able to hold off Bernard so far, and Fittipaldo seems to be fairly confident that he will be able to continue to do so.

"Right now, it's Roman Wilson by a mile, so we'll see what happens." Fittipaldo said. "I don't think Bernard's been disappointing. I think he's learning. Bernard's getting used to what it's like to play for Aaron Rodgers, and I think Roman Wilson, to his credit, has kind of figured out what it takes to play with Rodgers. So that's why he's more than a little bit ahead at this point. But there's still time. Just like the quarterback derby, there's still time here for Germie Bernard as well."

Playing with Aaron Rodgers is going to be a challenge for any young player. He is very demanding of his wide receivers, and he expects perfection when it comes to the little details. Wilson struggled with that in 2025, which is why he was a healthy scratch near the end of the season. He has seemed to learn, and that is helping him with Rodgers during the position battle.

Wilson now knows what it is like to play with Rodgers, and that is helping him when it comes to the position battle for the third wide receiver spot. He has also been impressive in general throughout camp, which is something that will make fans happy to hear after he has been relatively quiet throughout his first two seasons with the Steelers.

Steelers Should See Production From Both Wilson And Bernard

The Steelers can never have enough weapons, so both Wilson and Bernard should be able to produce in 2026 regardless of where they are at on the depth chart. They are each incredible athletes that are dangerous with the ball in their hands, so the coaching staff needs to find ways to set them both up for success.

They both also have the versatility to play in the slot and on the outside, which is a rarity among wide receivers entering the NFL nowadays. Hopefully Wilson's relationship with Rodgers continues to grow, and hopefully the veteran signal callers finds a way to trust a young rookie like Bernard.
