The Pittsburgh Steelers have extremely high hopes for the offense this upcoming season, especially in the wide receiver room. The team has lacked talent and depth at the position for a few seasons now, but it seems that the organization has put together a group that newly appointed head coach Mike McCarthy is confident in.

The Steelers have put a lot of resources into the wide receiver corps this offseason. At the top is obviously DK Metcalf, who the team acquired in a trade before the 2025 NFL season. Behind him, Pittsburgh did not have much depth last season, but that has all changed in the past couple of months.
The newest wide receiver to don the Black and Gold is rookie wide receiver Germie Bernard. Bernard was selected 47th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft by Pittsburgh after he had two standout seasons with the Alabama Crimson Tide before declaring for the draft. He put together 114 receptions for 1,656 receiving yards and 9 receiving touchdowns in this span. Bernard has a very unique set of skills, as he is listed at 6-foot-1, 206 pounds, but possesses great acceleration and flashy juke moves. Bernard looks the part and seems to be an extremely well-rounded playmaker.
Bernard had an amazing offseason and showed flashes of becoming the next great Steelers wide receiver. The coaching staff was very impressed with his work ethic and maturity during camp practices. Bernard put the entire NFL on notice when he had an electric performance in his first preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. He made multiple high-level plays and reminded Pittsburgh why they selected him in the second round.
McCarthy continues to praise the traits that Bernard has shown during his first preseason. During McCarthy's official season-opener press conference on Monday afternoon, he explained how Bernard has been fitting into the offense, especially how the transition has been practicing with an all-time great at quarterback in Aaron Rodgers.
"It is a work in progress, which is only natural," McCarthy explained. "Especially with the level of offense we are designed to play. With a veteran quarterback [Rodgers], the things at the line of scrimmage are new for any young player. Bernard is making progress and has a very bright future."
This is very high praise for a rookie, especially from a long-time NFL head coach. McCarthy has a lengthy history of working with extremely talented wide receivers, including Davante Adams, CeeDee Lamb, and Greg Jennings. If McCarthy can help transform Bernard into even half of the player that any of those guys were, the Steelers are in for a real treat.

Bernard will have a chance to showcase his talent early and often, as he will be competing for the third wide receiver spot on the depth chart with Roman Wilson throughout the season. The team is hoping for a breakout from Wilson this season, and having Bernard working with him should provide a boost to both players. It will be very interesting to see how the wide receiver room shakes out as the season progresses. All eyes will be on the rookie as the team has a history of drafting gems at the wide receiver position and Bernard is next in line to fill this role.
Steelers Have Even More Reinforcements At Wide Receiver
The Steelers' biggest offseason acquisition at the wide receiver position is Michael Pittman Jr. He landed in the Steel City after Pittsburgh traded a 2026 sixth-round draft pick to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for Pittman and a 2026 seventh-round draft pick in March. Pittman has a similar skill set to Metcalf and will presumably play second fiddle to the alpha wide receiver. Pittman could demand a large target share this season, as quarterback Aaron Rodgers can use him as a strong underneath target.
Pittsburgh's 2026 wide receiver room has it all. From strong, high-point guys to speedy, quick-cutting slot guys. As Rodgers enters his presumed final season in the NFL, he will have a plethora of weapons at his disposal. If he can work some of his magic, like he has for over two decades now, the entire Steelers offense will thrive and the pass-catchers will all have a chance to put up monster seasons.
