The Pittsburgh Steelers have been one of the top teams rumored to be heavily pursuing trades before the November 10 deadline. The Steelers are in desperate need of wide receiver help and have been exploring plenty of options, with the popular belief being that the team will make a splash move for a big-name playmaker. The Steelers could also be in the market for a cornerback, something that has not been talked about enough. The Steelers traded away Joey Porter Jr. and have put together a decent unit after his departure, but could still be searching for additional help.

Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Daylen Everette (23) celebrates breaking up a pass with teammates during the second quarter against the Cincinnati Bengals at Acrisure Stadium.

Steelers cornerbacks Asante Samuel Jr., Daylen Everette, and Jamel Dean have held their own since becoming the primary cornerbacks on the outside and have surprised a lot of fans with their respective performances. The defense as a whole has been playing very well for the past month and looks like one of the best units in the NFL. Jalen Ramsey is having a monster season, as he has been all over the field making plays. This secondary is a lot stronger than many fans predicted it would be after the trade of Porter Jr., but it does not have a ton of depth.

Insert veteran cornerback Amik Robertson. He has been in the NFL since 2020 and has been a serviceable player during his time in the league. He started his career with the Las Vegas Raiders when they selected him in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He started 21 games across his four seasons with the Raiders and recorded four interceptions and 111 combined tackles. In March 2024, Robertson signed a two-year contract with the Detroit Lions and had two strong seasons with them. Before the 2026 season, Robertson inked a two-year, $16 million contract with the Washington Commanders and has become a standout presence in their secondary through the first half of the 2026 season.

Robertson has been relatively healthy throughout his NFL career, including a stretch of appearing in 17 games in four straight seasons from 2022 through 2025.

In a recent CBS Sports article, NFL analyst JP Acosta listed Robertson as a realistic option for the Steelers as the trade deadline approaches.

"The Steelers' secondary needs more speed and urgency, and no two words embody Amik Robertson more," Acosta wrote. "The Commanders' CB plays with zero fear and has inside/outside versatility, giving DC Patrick Graham options with the cornerback room. Robertson also has experience with Graham from his time in Las Vegas. He feels like an easy and reliable candidate for Pittsburgh to go after."

Robertson's familiarity with playing under Graham is a positive factor that could provide a solid connection if he were to be acquired by Pittsburgh.

While the Steelers' secondary has been performing above expectations, one injury to a key player could bring the whole unit crashing down, as we saw when Dean suffered an injury against the Cleveland Browns back in Week 4. Wide receiver should be the biggest priority for Pittsburgh right now, but adding another cornerback like Robertson would be the cherry on top for a Steelers team that is currently 6-2 and looking to make a big playoff push. The Steelers are leading the AFC North and control their own destiny when it comes to winning the division and hosting a playoff game in 2026.

Steelers' Patrick Graham Has Been A Major Factor In Defensive Turnaround

The Steelers' defense looked like it was going to be burdened by the same flaws it had over the past couple of seasons. As the season has progressed, this has not been the case and a lot of the credit needs to go to Graham. He made the change to coach the defense from the sideline rather than up in the box and has been able to make a big impact. His schemes have allowed the Steelers' best defensive players to be put in prime positions to make plays, and they have done just that.

Graham's expertise is rubbing off on the entire organization, and the style of football that he has this defense playing is the one that Steelers fans have dreamt of for years.
