The Pittsburgh Steelers are gearing up for a playoff battle against their division rivals, the Baltimore Ravens. If the Steelers can pull off a win as 10-point underdogs, it would do wonders for the organization’s momentum and playoff aspirations. However, a loss would be devastating, sending Pittsburgh into the offseason with five straight losses, and raising questions about their future. With all eyes on the postseason, the Steelers are hoping for a strong performance that will set the tone for what comes next.

While the focus remains on securing a playoff win, fans are already thinking about the future, particularly when it comes to bolstering the team’s defense. The Steelers’ defensive line could greatly benefit from a familiar face: Javon Hargrave. Hargrave, originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft, played four seasons with the team before leaving for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020. During his time in Philadelphia, Hargrave's career blossomed, and he became a key figure in their defense.

After three successful seasons with the Eagles, Hargrave has moved on to the San Francisco 49ers. However, on Wednesday, it was revealed that the 49ers are planning to release Hargrave with a post-June 1 designation. While the 49ers have expressed interest in bringing him back, this opens up the possibility of a reunion with the Steelers. The timing could be perfect for Pittsburgh, as Hargrave’s return could significantly strengthen their defensive line for the 2025 season.

The 49ers are releasing Hargrave to create cap space after a disappointing 2024 season for the team. Hargrave, who tore his triceps and only played in three games, was sidelined for most of the year. It marked a frustrating second season for the two-time Pro Bowler, who had signed a four-year, $84 million contract with San Francisco in 2023. Given his injury and the 49ers’ need to allocate funds wisely, they may decide to part ways with Hargrave for good.

The Steelers, meanwhile, are facing an aging defensive line but still possess some promising young talent. They’re in need of reinforcements, and Hargrave, who was a fan favorite during his first four seasons in Pittsburgh, could provide the boost they need. Since leaving the Steelers, Hargrave has developed into a star, and his return could be a game-changer for the team. Paired with Cam Heyward, Keeanu Benton, and Larry Ogunjobi, Hargrave would help form a potentially dominant defensive line.

Steelers Could Make Wise Move And Bring Back Javon Hargrave

Bringing Hargrave back to Pittsburgh could give the Steelers a formidable front that can disrupt opposing offenses and elevate their defensive play. With his proven ability to impact the game and his familiarity with the team, Hargrave’s reunion could be just what the Steelers need to solidify their defense for the 2025 season.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Hargrave, but the door is officially open for Pittsburgh to strengthen their trenches with a potential reunion. Originally drafted by the Steelers, Hargrave could make a return to the team, bringing valuable experience to their defensive line.

Now 31 years old and coming off a triceps tear, Hargrave’s injury isn’t the most difficult to recover from, which could make him a viable option for the Steelers. If the price is right, there's a chance that Omar Khan and Andy Weidl could make this reunion a reality, bolstering Pittsburgh's defense for the future.
