According to Fowler, a surprising team has emerged as a serious contender for Wilson’s services. While the Steelers have expressed slight interest in bringing Wilson back, they are not the only ones. "My sense coming out of New Orleans is that the door is open for a potential deal between the Steelers and free agent Justin Fields, but it would have to make sense for Fields, who, at this stage, will most likely want a more legitimate chance to start a full season," Fowler said.
This new development puts the Steelers in a tricky position. They need to decide whether Wilson is worth a multi-year commitment or if it’s time to fully embrace Fields as the future. The last thing Pittsburgh wants is to get into a bidding war with a quarterback-needy team, especially one desperate enough to overpay for Wilson’s services.
