The Pittsburgh Steelers have spent well over a week on quarterback watch for Aaron Rodgers as he pondered his options. Now that situation has entered a new phase, as Tom Pelissero reported -- the Minnesota Vikings are not interested in bringing Rodgers on board with JJ McCarthy. If Rodgers wants to stay in the league, his current choices are Pittsburgh or the New York Giants.

The Steelers also have Russell Wilson waiting in the wings. After helping the Steelers get off to a 10-3 start in 2024, bringing Wilson back felt like a no-brainer. However, when the team entered the most challenging phase of their schedule last season, they suffered a backslide and lost their final five games, including the Wild Card contest against the Baltimore Ravens.

Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo joined The Fan Morning Show on 93.7 The Fan and was asked what the Vikings moving on from Rodgers means for the Steelers. Fittipaldo said that this is a positive development for the Steel City. He believes General Manager Omar Khan is keeping all of the team's options open as they look for their next franchise quarterback.
"Steelers, Giants, or retirement, right," responded Fittipaldo on how he sees the Rodgers situation panning out. "I guess if Rodgers really was holding out hope on the Vikings, this maybe simplifies things. Maybe we can get an answer this week. That's good news for the Steelers and the Giants, their offseasons have been on hold, really since free agency started last week."
Fittipaldo also found it interesting that Pelissero noted the Vikings were rejecting trade offers on McCarthy. He said he was under the impression that if Rodgers went to the Vikings, Khan would take a shot and submit an offer for the young quarterback to his agent.

There is no way to know how long Rodgers will take to make up his mind or how long the Steelers and Giants will be willing to wait. On the outside, this feels like a game of playground pick 'em and there are two kids left, Rodgers and Wilson, and each team will get one.
Steelers Players Are Finally Getting Vocal
Steelers fans have been very vocal about how they feel about the team seeming to wait on Rodgers. Even the ones who originally were excited about the possibility of signing the four-time MVP were frustrated, feeling he was holding the team hostage.
Longtime Pittsburgh captain Cameron Heyward spoke about Rodgers-watch on his podcast recently. He told his co-host that he has one sales pitch to potential teammates, "We're the Pittsburgh Steelers." He said in his mind, guys can take that or leave it; either way is fine with him. However, he isn't begging them. Heyward added that he believes every player has the right to do what's best for their career, but they either want to be a part of this franchise or they don't.
The fans who've objected to Rodgers joining the team are concerned about the drama that seems to follow him. Rodgers is a regular guest on The Pat McAfee Show, and Fittipaldo pointed out that he has previously used that platform to call out teammates. Despite that, Fittipaldo said there haven't been a lot of concerns from teammates over his locker room actions.

There are some who believe that Rodgers holding his teammates accountable wouldn't be a bad thing. The offense has lacked leadership over the past several years. However, many fans feel that to get that respect, Rodgers would have to give it in return, which would mean showing up for team activities.
