The Pittsburgh Steelers currently lack major depth at the wide receiver position. With DK Metcalf solidifying himself as the Steelers' clear cut wide receiver one (WR1), Pittsburgh lacks a reliable wide receiver two (WR2) option. With the rest of the wide receiver room consisting most notably of Calvin Austin lll, Roman Wilson and Robert Woods, the Steelers are expected to pursue multiple receivers in free agency, or the trade market in hopes of landing a legitimate second option behind Metcalf. As many names continue to emerge as top options for Pittsburgh, former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars receiver, Gabe Davis has reportedly scheduled a visit to Pittsburgh this week.

Davis is a talented player who may prove to be a serviceable second option behind Metcalf. His health is expected to play a major role in any team's decision to sign him however, as the veteran suffered multiple injuries last season. If healthy, Davis may prove to be a top receiver on the market, as he shined throughout his four seasons in Buffalo with Josh Allen.
With multiple veteran options remaining available to Pittsburgh via free agency, the Steelers are expected to sign a wide receiver sooner rather than later. When asked about the wide receiver situation, NFL analyst Ray Fittipaldo. gave his thoughts on the ongoing dilemma.
"With receiver, I think we all can agree that it's probably going to happen," Fittipaldo stated. "I think they have to get a guy in here to be a legit number two opposite DK Metcalf."
Fittipaldo then went on to speak about Davis' visit to Pittsburgh, and whether or not he believes it will work out.
"Now, is it going to be Gabe Davis? I think a big part of this is going to be the visit, the physical," Fittipaldo explained. "That's why Jacksonville cut him. He also had a little bit of a down season there, but yeah I think any receiver is probably still more likely than a tight end. But, I do understand maybe the injury yesterday changed that a little bit."
With rumors continuing to circulate all throughout the NFL world, the Steelers remain on the market for an additional quality offensive option. Metcalf, who was acquired in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks earlier this offseason, is expected to play a major role on the Steelers' offense in 2025. With multiple top options outside of Davis remaining available in free agency, the Steelers are expected to emerge as suitors for veterans like Amari Cooper or Keenan Allen.

Steelers Have Multiple Veteran Receivers Still Available Outside Of Davis
Cooper, who finds himself on the free agency market after being traded midseason last year, would prove to be an excellent WR2 option behind Metcalf. Traded from the Cleveland Browns to the Buffalo Bills last season, Cooper is an elite and speedy playmaker that would instantly open up the field for Metcalf. A five-time Pro Bowler and former Offensive Rookie of the Year, Cooper is expected to come as a relatively cheap option for Pittsburgh as he still finds himself without a team entering June.

Allen, a six-time Pro Bowler and 12-year veteran, would also prove to be a top option behind Metcalf for Pittsburgh. After spending a lone season with the Chicago Bears last year, Allen finds himself as one of the top wide receiver options still available on the market. Allen shined during his years with the Los Angles Chargers, as the veteran may prove to be an excellent mentor towards Austin lll and Wilson as well.
As Davis prepares for his official visit to Pittsburgh and as the Steelers continue to gear up towards the start of mandatory minicamp, the team is expected to add a true offensive weapon in the near future. Fans should continue to keep a close eye on the Steelers' wide receiver room as well, as both Austin lll and Wilson may end up emerging as legitimate go-to options themselves.
