The Pittsburgh Steelers finally got clarity at the most pivotal position in all of sports on Thursday. After an entire offseason of uncertainty at the quarterback position, it was officially revealed that Aaron Rodgers would be flying to the Steel City to join Pittsburgh for the 2025 season. Rodgers putting pen to paper gives Steeler Nation some legitimate optimism, at least for the upcoming year.

While Rodgers brings Hall of Fame pedigree and instant credibility to the offense, there are still major questions about the pieces surrounding him. The Steelers parted ways with key playmakers over the past year, and the current supporting cast has left fans wondering if there's enough firepower to help Rodgers succeed. Wide receiver depth, tight end consistency, and offensive line cohesion all remain topics of concern heading into training camp.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport joined Good Morning Football on Friday and made it clear he believes General Manager Omar Khan is far from done. According to Rapoport, the Steelers have already made calls about adding more reliable weapons, including tight ends Jonnu Smith and Kyle Pitts, suggesting that Pittsburgh is serious about giving Rodgers the help he needs. As the offseason rolls on, it is clear the Steelers are all in on 2025.

"They have inquired about some other weapons," Rapoport said. "I know we are talking about receivers and pass catchers. The Steelers have had their eyes on some tight ends too β€” Jonnu Smith, there was a phone call there. Kyle Pitts, there was a phone call there."

The Steelers have been active in the trade market, particularly at the tight end position, signaling a clear intent to upgrade that area of their passing attack. Pittsburgh appears to view tight end as a key spot where added production could make a major difference for the offense.

However, Rapoport isn't ruling out the possibility of the Steelers targeting a wide receiver either. With questions still lingering about the team’s depth and reliability at the position, the front office may look to bolster the receiver room as well.

"The Steelers are in the market, it seems, for at least one more playmaker," Rapoport said. "This does feel to me like the Steelers are just trying to load up with one more weapon for Aaron Rodgers… I do expect the Pittsburgh Steelers to continue to search for one more weapon."

Pittsburgh is clearly gearing up to add one final piece to the offense, aiming to ensure Rodgers has everything he needs to lead a deep playoff push in 2025. Whether it’s a tight end, a wide receiver, or both, the Steelers are all-in on surrounding Rodgers with the tools to succeed. Some even believe that the signing of Rodgers could mean one of his favorite pass catchers might join him in the Steel City.

The outlook for the Steelers' offense just improved dramatically with the addition of Rodgers. While Rodgers is 41 years old and coming off a 2024 season in which he led the New York Jets to only five wins, Head Coach Mike Tomlin remains infatuated with the veteran quarterback. Even at this stage in his career, Tomlin clearly believes Rodgers still has something left in the tank.

Steelers Have Serious Faith Aaron Rodgers Can Improve Their Offense For 2025

If the former four-time league MVP can give Pittsburgh even 50 percent of the greatness he showed at his peak, the Steelers may have enough firepower to make a legitimate playoff push. That is certainly the belief inside the building, especially from Tomlin, who has never wavered in his confidence in Rodgers' ability to elevate a team.

For a franchise hungry to return to championship contention, the addition of Rodgers is not just about name recognition. It is about belief. With the right supporting cast and a healthy quarterback, the Steelers believe they can compete at the highest level once again.
