The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense has been a tough watch for the fan base ever since the day Ben Roethlisberger retired. Now, the Steelers are prepping for a 2025 season that will be led by 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers. While the move raised some eyebrows at first, it has brought a sense of hope to fans who have grown tired of watching an offense that lacked creativity, explosiveness, and leadership under center.

One of the biggest complaints from fans in recent years has been Mike Tomlin’s unwillingness to take risks on offense. A key example of that has been the team's refusal to consistently throw the ball over the middle of the field. That area of the game has often been ignored, despite being crucial to sustaining drives and keeping defenses off balance. With Rodgers now in town, those concerns should finally be addressed, as Tomlin is expected to trust the future Hall of Famer to operate freely and use everything he has learned over two decades in the NFL.

On Thursday, wide receiver Scotty Miller spoke with the media and shared how different things feel with Rodgers leading the offense. He admitted it can be surprising to see Rodgers target the middle of the field so often, something Steelers fans have been waiting to see for years. Miller’s reaction speaks to just how much this offense could evolve in 2025, with a quarterback who is not only willing, but eager to make the throws that have been missing from Pittsburgh’s playbook for far too long.

"Yeah, Aaron [Rodgers] has been one of the best I have ever seen in these last couple of practices," Miller told the Pittsburgh media on Thursday. "He’s been able to manipulate defenders in the middle of the field, look guys off and hit his intermediate routes, so it has been special to watch."

Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith got a bit of a pass in his first season in Pittsburgh. Now, with all the new faces on offense, it could take some time for everything to fully come together. Still, the pressure is on Smith to call the right plays and elevate this offense beyond average.

To make that happen, targeting wide receivers over the middle of the field is pivotal. For years, that part of the field has been underutilized in Pittsburgh’s offense, limiting the team’s ability to sustain drives and create big plays.

"You might be surprised running over the middle not thinking you’re going to get it, then he’ll move the linebacker and hit you right in the hole," Miller said. "So it has been real fun."

Miller pointed out that Rodgers still has the elite ability to move linebackers with his eyes and deliver accurate throws to receivers crossing the middle. That skill set could be the key to unlocking a more dynamic and efficient offense in 2025. Miller explained that it has been a bit of a shock to come across the middle of the field and get the ball. However, it sounds like the offense is quickly getting used to it.

Steelers' Scotty Miller Looking To Prove His Value Within Wide Receiver Room

For Miller, it has not been easy to find meaningful playing time in the NFL, though the veteran has managed to stick around on several rosters. He’s carved out a role as a depth wide receiver who contributes reliably on special teams. In 2025, Miller will look to prove his value within a competitive Steelers wide receiver room.

He’s clearly enjoying the opportunity to catch passes from Rodgers. While Miller remains buried on the Steelers depth chart, he continues to put in the work and stay ready. He will likely get another chance in 2025 to see game action and contribute as a valuable asset on special teams.
