The Pittsburgh Steelers’ wide receiver room has piqued a ton of interest heading into the 2025 season. With a mix of veteran experience and young talent, the unit features DK Metcalf, Calvin Austin III, Roman Wilson, Robert Woods, Ben Skowronek, and Scotty Miller. These six players seem to be the favorites to secure spots on the 53-man roster. The addition of Metcalf brings star power and physicality, while Austin and Wilson offer promise as emerging playmakers.

Steelers insider Brooke Pryor shared some critical insight for the fan base in her latest article for ESPN. Pryor revealed that four wide receivers are considered locks to make the roster. This likely means Metcalf, Austin, Miller, and Skowronek have their spots secured, leaving just two remaining positions up for grabs. The competition for those final spots is expected to be intense as the Steelers work to finalize their depth chart.
Skowronek and Miller seem to be locked in on the roster according to Pryor. Skowronek provides value as a physical blocker and special teams contributor. Miller offers speed and quickness that can help stretch defenses. The coaching staff will be paying close attention during the final practices and preseason games to decide who best fits the team’s needs heading into the 2025 season.
"This season, Metcalf and Austin are locks, and Skowronek and Miller also appear to have clinched jobs," Pryor wrote in her latest article for ESPN. "That leaves maybe one or two jobs up for grabs that could go to Wilson, playing in his first full camp and preseason after sustaining a series of injuries that kept him out most of last season, veteran Robert Woods, Brandon Johnson or Roc Taylor."
The Steelers typically keep six wide receivers, but they have kept just five in the past. Metcalf, Austin, Skowronek, and Miller are all locks, in her mind, to make the 53-man roster.

Steelers WR Roman Wilson makes a big catch over Joey Porter Jr. in training camp.
That leaves Wilson, Woods, Brandon Johnson, and UDFA Roc Taylor trying to steal a spot.Obviously, the thought of Wilson not being one of the six seems silly. He should be a lock as well, and then it will likely come down to Woods versus Taylor.
"Though he was slow to get going early in camp, Wilson has developed a rapport with Rodgers lately, and Taylor made several key catches in Thursday's practice, including one in a two-minute drill that set up a touchdown on the next play," Pryor said.
The Steelers typically keep six wide receivers on their roster, though they have occasionally kept just five in previous seasons. The competition is expected to be intense as the team looks to balance experience, potential, and special teams contributions.
Steelers' Final WR Spot Battle Is Heating Up
It seems unlikely that Wilson will be left off the final roster. Although he started training camp a bit slow, recent reports indicate he has begun to find his rhythm and make noticeable improvements. If Wilson can stay healthy and take the advice of Aaron Rodgers to get out of his own way, he has the potential to be a significant contributor in the Steelers’ offense. His combination of size, speed, and route-running ability makes him an intriguing prospect entering his second NFL season.

Wilson’s development could prove vital for the Steelers as they look to deepen their receiving corps heading into the 2025 season. With Metcalf providing a dominant presence and Austin continuing to improve, Wilson has the chance to carve out a meaningful role. Meanwhile, the battle between Woods and Taylor for the final roster spot will be closely watched, as both players offer different skill sets and experience. The Steelers’ wide receiver room is shaping up to be a key storyline as the regular season approaches.
