The Pittsburgh Steelers got involved in a longstanding 2025 offseason saga as they searched for their next quarterback. It turned out quickly that all of the Steelers’ chips were stacked firmly on landing the now 41-year-old quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. After winning just five games with the New York Jets in the 2024 season, Rodgers became available, and Pittsburgh jumped at the opportunity. At first, many fans were not all-in on the idea of Rodgers. However, early reports have fans starting to feel hopeful.

Steelers' quarterback Aaron Rodgers looks on with intense focus in street clothes as the team works out during a 2025 training camp practice at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.

Mike Tomlin believes Rodgers elevates this team into one capable of winning a Super Bowl in 2025, pointing to his leadership, experience, and Hall of Fame résumé as the missing ingredient for an otherwise playoff-ready roster. Team President Art Rooney II spoke during the waiting saga, making it clear the Steelers were not going to drag out negotiations forever. Rooney emphasized that while Rodgers was the franchise's top choice, Pittsburgh had contingency plans if things fell through.

The statement reassured fans that the front office remained decisive and unwilling to let uncertainty drag into training camp. Ultimately, the persistence paid off, as the Steelers landed Rodgers and began a new chapter with one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in NFL history. Steelers fans got to hear from Rooney again during the second preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he gave his honest opinion on Rodgers joining the football team.

"Aaron's come in and he's been everything you could ask for in terms of working with his teammates, working with younger guys, working with the offense," Rooney said. "So, I like what l've seen so far from Aaron, for sure."

Rooney was speaking with announcers Bob Pompeani and Charlie Batch during an in-game interview. It was a tremendous chance for Steelers fans to hear directly from him, especially after his comments earlier in the offseason. It is very exciting to see how the Rodgers saga has turned out so far, generating a lot of enthusiasm. Fans are super thrilled for the 2025 season and are uncertain what to expect.

One thing is certain: Rodgers has been a much better teammate than many expected at this stage of his career. He has been willing to offer mentorship to the quarterback room and the rest of the team, building strong chemistry along the way. If Pittsburgh can carry that momentum through the 2025 season, Tomlin could have a very real chance to end his playoff losing streak, which has persisted since the 2017 season.

Tomlin’s last playoff win came in the 2016 season, and with Rodgers providing leadership and stability, the Steelers have an opportunity to finally break that streak. The combination of Rodgers’ experience and Tomlin’s coaching gives Pittsburgh fans genuine hope that 2025 could be a turning point for the franchise.

Steelers' Mike Tomlin Gambled Everything On Aaron Rodgers For 2025 Season

Not everyone is sold on Tomlin. As previously mentioned, Tomlin is approaching a decade since his last playoff win. No one in Pittsburgh cares about him never having a losing season, and Tomlin himself does not care about that either. However, the 2025 season carries a lot of weight for Tomlin. He went all in for Rodgers, and many believe he will be out of excuses after the 2025 season.

All eyes are on Pittsburgh as the national media wonders just how far this Steelers team can go with Rodgers at quarterback in the 2025 season. The expectations are both high and low from pundits. Soon Steelers fans will see it all play out.
