Steelers' Mike Tomlin Has Wild Comments About Chris Boswell

The Pittsburgh Steelers have few players as reliable as kicker Chris Boswell. The 34-year-old proved his worth once again against the New York Jets on Sunday, kicking a game-winning field goal with a minute left. There's no doubt that Boswell is one of the best kickers in the National Football League, and Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin was quick to shower him with praise following the game.

Tomlin spoke to the media following the win and had good things to say about the 11-year veteran.

"I can't say enough [about Boswell]," Tomlin said. "Our kicker is a serial killer. He's got a low pulse rate, and he can't wait to deliver... Bos always wants to bang from deep. That one he made in the first half, I don't even know if he looked at me.... But that's the type of guy you want."

Boswell made two crucial kicks against the Jets. One was from 56 yards, and the game-winner from 60 — a career record for him. The kick came after the Steelers made a crucial third down stop against the Jets, and the offense stalled. The team only had one timeout left, and the down and distance was 4th and 11, leaving Tomlin no choice but to give Boswell a shot.

There's no doubt that Boswell is not only one of the greatest kickers in the league, but also one of the best in league history. The game-winner on Sunday marked the 11th in his career, and he is the fourth most accurate kicker in league history. His 2024 season might be one of his best, making 93.2% of his kicks (41/44) and going 13/15 from 50+ yards.

Steelers' Boswell Looking For Contract Extension

While the big news of the offseason was defensive tackle Cam Heyward seeking a contract extension, an understated story was that Boswell was also looking for a raise in 2025.

While Heyward received a pay bump a day before the season kicked off, Boswell did not, and Boswell's contract runs only through 2026. It is an important consideration that the kicker will be 36-years-old when his contract ends - but kickers can typically play longer than that and into their 40s.

While the Steelers don't typically do contracts mid-season, there's a significant possibility that the team and Boswell will come to an agreement in the coming off-season. Whatever the case with his contract, Boswell proved once again that he is one of the best kickers in the entire NFL - and Tomlin and the Steelers are obviously a fan.

It's not hyperbole to say that Boswell is one of the most important players on the entire Steelers roster - in fact, he led the team in points scored in 2024. He also placed second all-time in field goals made in a single season - winning two games (against the Atlanta Falcons in week 1 and the Baltimore Ravens in Week 11) with the only points scored.

Boswell is looking at another big year for the Steelers in 2025, and he will be desperately needed on a team that led the NFL in field goals in 2024. His game-winning kick against the Jets may not be the last one fans see in the 2025 season, either.
