The Pittsburgh Steelers have a chance to go out and try to trade for Miami Dolphins superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill. It seemed like a far stretch, but after the mess that has been happening with the Dolphins, Hill has been upset and clearly wants out of Miami. For Pittsburgh, the idea of adding a dynamic playmaker like Hill to a roster already featuring DK Metcalf, Calvin Austin III, and three dependable tight ends would push their offense into elite territory. The team has made bold moves before, and Hill would instantly give Aaron Rodgers another dangerous weapon in what already looks like an all-in 2025 season.

That is why NFL insider Mike Florio floated the idea that the Steelers were interested in making a play for the All-Pro wideout. The speculation made sense because Rodgers thrives with explosive receivers, and Pittsburgh is clearly looking to maximize its short championship window. With Hill reportedly unhappy in Miami and the Dolphins facing their own internal drama, the timing seemed perfect for a team like the Steelers to swoop in. Florio’s suggestion sparked a wave of excitement across Steeler Nation, with fans imagining Hill’s speed paired with Rodgers’ arm strength in Arthur Smith’s offensive system.
However, things took a big turn on Thursday when Florio walked back his comments on his podcast Pro Football Talk Live, clarifying that Mike Tomlin himself is hesitant about pulling the trigger on such a blockbuster deal. According to Florio, Tomlin is scared of what trading for Hill could mean for the team’s culture and long-term stability. Hill is currently being accused of alleged domestic violence.
"And I will share one little nugget as it relates to teams interested in Tyreek Hill," Florio said while speaking on his podcast on Thursday. "I heard this the other day and haven't had a chance to mention it. My understanding is the Steelers were [interested], but they're not anymore because Mike Tomlin is concerned about what happens with this personal conduct policy investigation."
While Hill’s on-field talent is undeniable, the baggage and potential legal risks give Pittsburgh’s head coach pause, according to Florio.

For now, it looks like the Steelers will hold off on pursuing Hill, keeping their focus on building around the weapons they already have, while leaving the door open in case circumstances change.
"Is there going to be a photo? Is there going to be a video? Is there going to be something that Tyreek Hill gets suspended for? They don't want to trade for him and then lose him, which is not an unreasonable position for a team to take because why do you want to give up a third-round pick next year and have a guy come in and you raise up everyone's hopes and then he's gone in November?"
The idea of trading for Hill would certainly open up this offense. He is now 31 years old, but just before the 2024 season, Hill was ranked as the best player in the entire NFL, an impressive feat for a wide receiver.
Steelers Keeping Options Open While Pulling Back On Hill
There were also concerns about whether Hill still has anything left in the tank. His situation with the Dolphins makes it difficult to fully evaluate his stats. Despite that, he is clearly still very talented, though he is not in the ideal situation to showcase it.

Through two games in the 2025 NFL season, Hill has caught 10 passes for 149 receiving yards. He has yet to find the end zone. Steelers fans who were hopeful to see Pittsburgh make a move for Hill may be disappointed, as it appears Tomlin believes the situation is too risky for his liking.
