Steelers' Omar Khan Sparks Frenzy With Possible Bold Pursuit Of Multiple Wide Receivers

The Pittsburgh Steelers' wide receiver room could use some extra help. This has been the case in the Steel City for quite some time, but it got even more confusing in the 2025 offseason. The Steelers made a blockbuster move by trading for superstar wide receiver DK Metcalf, instantly giving Aaron Rodgers a dominant weapon on the outside.

However, just months later, Pittsburgh shocked fans when they traded away their own young star, George Pickens, creating both excitement and uncertainty about the long-term vision at wide receiver. Many are now wondering if General Manager Omar Khan has another trick up his sleeve as the team looks to solidify its passing game.

While Metcalf’s arrival provides Pittsburgh with one of the most physically imposing receivers in the league, the depth behind him remains questionable. The current group lacks proven consistency, and opposing defenses have been able to key in on Metcalf without another dangerous option on the field. Although Calvin Austin III has done a good job in the WR2 spot.

This is why reports from ESPN insiders Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano have drawn so much attention, as both suggested the Steelers could have their eyes on multiple wide receivers across the league. Adding one more playmaker would be a major win for this Arthur Smith offense.

"The Steelers could have one more move in them, and I'd be willing to bet they'd at least have a conversation on Tyreek Hill if Miami engaged. Curtis Samuel is also a healthy scratch in Buffalo despite making $7.4 million this season," Fowler said.

Fowler mentioned that the Steelers could have interest in Tyreek Hill, despite reports suggesting the team was hesitant to pursue a trade for him.

Graziano then followed up by sharing his overall perspective on the situation.

"I feel the Steelers have pivoted a bit, and if they make an in-season move, it would more likely be to help their struggling defense," Graziano said. "But since you were asking about receivers, I remember Jakobi Meyers asking for a new contract from the Raiders in the offseason and then asking to be traded when he didn't get one. If Las Vegas tumbles out of contention and he's not in its long-term plans, he could help someone down the stretch."

Steelers Could Make In-Season Trade For Defensive Player

It has become very clear that Khan doesn’t operate like the old Steelers management. He is aggressive, strategic, and always eager to make moves to improve the roster, constantly looking to bolster the receiving corps and add dynamic talent. This season, the Steelers have a veteran lineup with one final chance to compete for a Super Bowl in 2025.

They are 2-1, but the defense has looked shaky early, raising concerns about depth and cohesion. Graziano believes that in-season trades on defense cannot be ruled out, and any such move would likely frustrate fans who have been eagerly hoping for a true wide receiver two to complement Metcalf and give the offense a more explosive, versatile, and impactful threat. Khan’s bold, decisive approach shows a willingness to take calculated risks to transform this roster into legitimate contenders.

The Steelers had hoped their defense would be a true strength in the 2025 season, but that has been far from the case through the first three games. Now, it’s up to Khan to determine how he wants to approach any in-season trades that could improve the roster.
