The Pittsburgh Steelers were able to take down the Cleveland Browns on Sunday as the team captured their fourth win of the 2025 season to move to 4-1 on the year. Cleveland fell to 1-5 after the matchup, and the Steelers were able to watch their lead in the AFC North grow even more as the Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals also lost. This was a good win for Pittsburgh in front of the home fans as the team lost its home opener back in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Pittsburgh played just its second home game on Sunday, but the field was a disaster for the two teams to be playing on. By the second half the middle of the field was completely torn up. This could be seen on the broadcast, and it was seen several times as players lost their footing in the backfield. Kicker Chris Boswell even missed a kick in the fourth quarter because his plant foot slipped on the ground and forced the trajectory of the ball to be way too low. Head Coach Mike Tomlin was asked about the field conditions on Monday during his press conference.

"I thought it was poor yesterday," Tomlin said. "I am not concerned going forward. It is my understanding that that turf is going to be swapped out, but I certainly acknowledge it was a concern yesterday."

Tomlin didn't try to hide his feelings while speaking with the media, he was not happy at all with the field conditions on Sunday in the Steelers second home game. It is important to note that the field also gets used by the Pittsburgh Panthers, and they have had four home game at Acrisure Stadium, which certainly contributes heavily to the field getting torn up.

Tomlin acknowledged that the playing surface is going to be swapped out before Pittsburgh's next home game, which will take place in Week 8 as the Steelers will host the Green Bay Packers. That is obviously going to be a highly anticipated matchup as both teams are playing well and there is an obvious storyline with the Packers and Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers also spoke about the field after the game while speaking with the media, and he acknowledged the poor playing surface. He even suggested that the surface could have contributed to Miles Killebrew's significant knee injury that is expected to keep him out for a considerable amount of time. Tomlin was asked if there was any correlation between Killebrew's knee injury and the field, and he simply avoided the question and said that he did not know.

Steelers' Poor Field Conditions Highlight Underlying Issue With The Organization

Pittsburgh shares its home stadium with a college program, and the team also shares its practice facility with the Panthers as well. It is often considered one of the worst practice facilities in the league, and no NFL team should be forced to practice and workout alongside college athletes. These are all issues that have been around for some time now for the Steelers, and it highlights just how cheap the ownership is. It is time to upgrade everything the Steelers have going on, including finding a way to get the organization away from the college program.

Pittsburgh Steelers

NFL franchises are worth billions. There is no excuse for the Steelers to still be practicing alongside kids that are preparing to play Syracuse this week. Pittsburgh is one of the most storied and well-respected organizations in all of sports, and it is about time ownership made an effort to liven the facility up. Getting a new stadium built is a complicated process, but there are certainly upgrades that could be done to Acrisure Stadium to improve the fan experience and the playing experience.
