Steelers' Aaron Rodgers Now On Pace To Shatter Ben Roethlisberger's Historic Record

The Pittsburgh Steelers started searching for a new answer at quarterback in the 2025 offseason. It quickly became rumored that Aaron Rodgers and Mike Tomlin were forming a friendship, and ultimately, the two joined forces for the 2025 season. The pairing raised eyebrows around the league as Rodgers, now 41 years old, looked to prove he still had plenty left in the tank while Tomlin sought to bring stability and experience to the quarterback position. So far, the results have been promising.

 The Steelers sit at 4-2, and Rodgers has been the steadying force behind their early-season success, providing the veteran leadership and poise that Pittsburgh has long been searching for since the Ben Roethlisberger era ended.

Through six games, Rodgers has completed 68.6% of his passes for 1,270 yards and 14 touchdowns while throwing five interceptions. His chemistry with the offense has been evident as he spreads the ball around efficiently and maintains composure under pressure behind an improving offensive line. 

Despite his age, Rodgers’ arm strength and accuracy have remained impressive, and his command of the offense has helped unlock a new rhythm for the Steelers. Pittsburgh fans, once skeptical about the short-term nature of the move, are beginning to see why Tomlin was eager to bring the four-time MVP to the Steel City.

NFL reporter Will Graves took to social media to share an eye-catching statistic about Rodgers’ start to the season. He is currently on pace to smash Roethlisberger’s Steelers single-season passing touchdown record. Roethlisberger’s mark has long stood as a symbol of his dominance in Pittsburgh, but Rodgers’ early pace suggests he could rewrite the record books if he continues at this level. 

For a franchise steeped in quarterback history, the thought of Rodgers surpassing one of Roethlisberger’s most iconic records is both surreal and exciting. It is still early, but Rodgers’ resurgence has brought new energy to Pittsburgh and perhaps a new chapter in Steelers quarterback history. 

Roethlisberger set that record during the 2018 season when he passed for 5,129 yards and threw 34 touchdowns. He also tossed 16 interceptions that year, a reminder of the aggressive, high-risk style that defined much of his career. 

There is no guarantee that Rodgers will surpass Roethlisberger’s record, but his early-season performance makes it look like he could do it with ease. For the 41-year-old quarterback, staying healthy and upright remains the biggest concern, but he has already proven he still has the talent and football IQ to lead this team on a playoff run.

Steelers' Defense Is Currently Holding The Team Back In 2025

The bigger worry now is the Steelers’ defense. When news broke that Rodgers was coming to Pittsburgh, many hoped he could simply make the offense average while an elite defense carried the team. Through six games, however, the reality has been the complete opposite. The offense has had to bail out the defense repeatedly to keep the Steelers competitive.

If the defense can get it together, this team has the potential to make a serious run. With Rodgers playing at such a high level, Pittsburgh’s ceiling is much higher than anyone expected. The key will be whether the defense can match the quarterback’s consistency and allow this team to truly contend for the playoffs.
