The Pittsburgh Steelers brought in 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers during the 2025 offseason understanding the risks that could potentially be associated with his age. A Week 10 contest versus the Los Angeles Chargers saw what was not just the veteran's worst performance of the year, but one of the more underachieving outings of his career. The panic button hasn't been hit quite yet; however, fans may be inclined to start worrying if the offense can't perform against a very bad Cincinnati Bengals defense in Week 11. Time will tell if the unit can quickly get back on track.

Rodgers only threw for 161 yards in Los Angeles, and the most successful receiver on the night was Roman Wilson, who caught two passes for 35 yards and a garbage-time touchdown. It was a disappointing evening for the receiving corps, and it may be fair to take some of the blame off of Rodgers, specifically because of how difficult it was to find open pass-catchers.
Appearing on Tuesday's The Fan Morning Show, veteran team reporter Mark Kaboly had plenty to say about the Steelers' loss to the Chargers and what is next for the franchise. In an interesting observation, the insider said that he believes that Rodgers was putting a ton of blame on his receivers for Sunday's debacle, particularly when it came to possession downs.
"If you heard Rodgers' postgame comments, I don't know if I read into it, but I'm sure you heard it, he made it sound like the receivers just weren't open on third downs," Kaboly said. "I mean, it was low key. It was very read between the lines. Ben [Roethlisberger] ripping on Todd Haley kind of stuff you have to maneuver through, but it's what it sounded like to me."
It was a fascinating comparison from Kaboly. It is no secret that Todd Haley and Ben Roethlisberger were not the best of friends during their time together in the Steel City. The quarterback was consistently indirectly throwing his play-caller under the bus. In Kaboly's opinion, Rodgers was taking a similar approach with his wide receivers and tight ends following the brutal 25-10 defeat at the hands of the Chargers.

The Steelers were not able to trade for a pass-catcher before the NFL's deadline, and it seems sort of like poetic justice that the positional group was unreliable on Sunday night. Pittsburgh has one of the more impressive tight end rooms in the NFL, but as far as pure wideouts go, the team needs some help. It's clear that Rodgers could use another playmaker in the mix, which is why fans could see Marquez-Valdes Scantling activated off of the practice squad sooner rather than later.

Pittsburgh will play some stout defenses as the season winds down, and some contests will have to be won through the air. For that to be possible, the receivers are going to have to get open more often. Rodgers evidently had some frustrations with the group in Los Angeles, and he is going to expect the group to play at a higher level moving forward.

Steelers Will Likely Be On The Prowl For Receivers In 2026
Pittsburgh's 10-plus draft selections in 2026 will provide plenty of opportunity. A big area of need will be the receiving corps, and it will be possible for the team to take more than one in late April. No one is quite sure who will be the signal-caller, but DK Metcalf needs some help in future years. It would make sense to the room to go through a complete overhaul once the offseason rolls around.
