The Pittsburgh Steelers are desperate for a postseason win. One has not been celebrated in the Steel City dating back to the 2016 campaign. It has been roughly a decade since Mike Tomlin's teams were viewed as legitimate Super Bowl contenders. The current collective is not being looked at that way, as it is not only an underdog at home with the Houston Texans coming to town, but not many pundits have faith that the team can finally get over the hump in the playoffs. Additionally, a loss on Monday evening could certainly lead to more questions about the head coach's future.

Stability has been something that the Steelers have figured out at the professional level. Only having three head coaches dating back to 1969 is one of the most spectacular facts in all of sports. Sometimes, however, time can lead to certain differences in opinions, as well as all parties longing for a fresh start. That could potentially happen regardless of what Pittsburgh does versus the Texans.
One of the lucky three to lead the black and gold over the years is Bill Cowher. Nowadays, the Hall of Famer spends a lot of his time in the pulic eye on CBS, giving his opinions on the modern NFL. On Sunday, he was part of a segment that was diving into the NFL's head-coach openings. Not only was he evaluating the current group of vacancies, but he hinted that there may be more than eight spots available in the near future.
"Owners look at it and say, 'You know what, we may be one coach away from changing this whole thing around,' so I think it [has] led to a lot more instability," Cowher said. "I gotta be honest with you. I'm not so sure that this chart [of head coaching vacancies] is done yet."
Immediately, fans must think of Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur after a devastating loss on Saturday evening to the Chicago Bears. It is very possible that he ends up looking for a new home very soon.

Two other names have to come up when Cowher says something like this. Tomlin could decide that he and the Steelers have reached their peak, while Buffalo Bills Head Coach Sean McDermott also may be on the hot seat. All in all, Cowher is the most connected to Pittsburgh and it is intriguing to hear him hint that more franchises may enter the race for the top candidates.

Time will tell if any other organizations decide to part ways with their respective coaches. McDermott and LaFleur could certainly be fired, while Tomlin would more than likely be the one making the decision to step away. If he does that, plenty of reports have suggested that he has interest in television; perhaps he could desire sitting next to Cowher on the set of The NFL Today with Matt Ryan leaving the show for a position with the Atlanta Falcons.

Overall, a lot is going on towards the end of one of the craziest NFL seasons ever. It would only become more chaotic if Cowher's prediction is correct and other coaches are looking for new teams.

Steelers Not Worried About Firing Tomlin
While Tomlin does have a 2027 option that could be declined by the organization, Pittsburgh is focused on winning a Wild Card matchup and moving on in the postseason. If the team gets blown out by Houston, however, and chants are loud throughout the stadium demanding a change, things could get interesting. Cowher's point may just be relevant to the Steelers after all.
