The Pittsburgh Steelers have a situation unfolding at the wide receiver position. They traded to get DK Metcalf ahead of the 2025 season, and at the time, many pundits thought Pittsburgh had solved their issues in the wide receiver room. The idea of Metcalf on one side and George Pickens on the other was a frightening prospect for NFL secondaries.

Unfortunately, the Steelers did not include Pickens in their long-term plans and traded him to the Dallas Cowboys. Pickens turned in an incredible season, cementing himself as one of the best wide receivers in the league. Now the Steelers are left trying to figure out how to improve their wide receiver room.

One option, now that the Miami Dolphins let him walk, is Tyreek Hill. There are many questions about Hill because he is 31 years old and coming off a devastating injury. Some worry he may never be the same player, and for a guy who relied on his speed the way Hill did, that makes him a very risky prospect for General Manager Omar Khan.

While speaking on 93.7 The Fan on Thursday, NFL insider Mike Florio revealed he spoke with Khan and found out his true thoughts on signing Hill in Pittsburgh ahead of the 2026 season. The answer is telling for Steeler Nation to hear.

"The fact that, look I have not considered the possibility that the Steelers trade DK Metcalf," Florio said while speaking on 93.7 The Fan. "Who are you going to replace him with if you trade him? I asked Omar Khan recently about Tyreek Hill and he said, 'We are happy with what we have.'"

First, clearly, Khan is not going to come out and state the Steelers’ true plans with Hill. However, what Florio revealed next was far more telling.

Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill reels in a catch while he warms up prior to a home game in Miami, FL at Hard Rock Stadium.

He made a point that Steelers fans and football fans alike will immediately understand, highlighting the most important part of what Khan actually told him.

"Now, obviously, I would not expect him to wear it on his sleeve if they are trading DK Metcalf, but you would at least expect them to do their due diligence on a guy like Tyreek Hill if you were thinking about trading a guy like DK Metcalf," Florio said. "I would be surprised."

During the 2025 season, Metcalf played in 15 games, missing two, obviously because of the suspension he earned for the altercation with a fan during the win over the Detroit Lions. Metcalf caught 59 passes for 850 receiving yards and scored six touchdowns. It was not an awful year for Metcalf, but many expected him and Aaron Rodgers to form legitimate chemistry.

Because of the lack of other reliable targets in the Steelers’ wide receiver room, fans felt Metcalf underperformed and did not truly live up to the WR1 status Pittsburgh expected when they traded for him and committed so much money.

Steelers Face Tough Decisions At Wide Receiver As Tyreek Hill Rumors Swirl

The Steelers now find themselves at a crossroads with their wide receiver room. After committing significant resources to Metcalf and parting ways with Pickens, Pittsburgh has yet to fully stabilize the position. Metcalf delivered a solid season, but he did not quite reach the WR1 expectations many envisioned, leaving the team searching for additional impact.

Hill’s availability presents a tantalizing opportunity, but his age and recent injury make him a risky investment, even for a team willing to swing for big plays. Khan’s measured approach shows the Steelers are not rushing into a potentially costly decision. Now pundits will try and determine if Khan is telling the truth about Hill or not. They also have to decide on WR Calvin Austin III's future.
