The Pittsburgh Steelers are having a very productive start to the NFL's 2026 league year. General Manager Omar Khan has not at all been afraid to test the waters in free agency, while also dabbling in the trade market. The team has set itself up nicely for not necessarily needing to go in any specific direction when the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft commences. One small area of concern, however, has to be at left guard. The depth is weak for the organization, and three-year veteran starter Isaac Seumalo left the Steel City to join the Arizona Cardinals.

Franchises don't typically take offensive guards too early in the NFL Draft, so the Steelers will potentially look to select one in the mid-to-late rounds. As far as the free agency pool goes, Pittsburgh still has some options. In fact, the franchise was reported to be signing Brock Hoffman, previously a member of the Dallas Cowboys, but the alleged move was debunked and nothing has surfaced since regarding Head Coach Mike McCarthy's former player.
Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette held a fan chat on Monday to discuss everything going on with the franchise. Someone brought up Hoffman and was curious as to why the Steelers haven't brought him in yet. He is just 26 years of age and has familiarity with the new leader of the locker room. The reporter made sure to note that it could absolutely still end up happening.
"Brock Hoffman is still unsigned, so it's entirely possible the Steelers will sign him, despite the false alarm late last week," Batko wrote.
Pittsburgh bringing in someone like Hoffman wouldn't necessarily be a home run of a move. He likely would sign a short-term deal without too many strings attached; however, the team needs the depth. One of the other advantages of Hoffman being the choice is that, due to his prior contract status, he would not count against the compensatory formula that Khan has enjoyed taking advantage of.
"That's another reason why the dots connect with Brock Hoffman from the Cowboys," Batko noted. "He was a restricted free agent who wasn't tendered, so does not count in the compensatory formula."
A factual report of the Steelers singing Hoffman could theoretically come at any moment. It certainly makes sense for him to reunite with McCarthy, and it also wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for him to enter a situation that has a wide open hole at his position. Winning a starting job over someone like Spencer Anderson or a rookie would not be out of the question for the four-year veteran.

Left guard isn't necessarily the sexiest position on a football team, but losing Seumalo could give the Steelers some serious issues moving forward. There is likely a plan in place; however, that has not been made known to the fan base just yet. Hoffman might not be the long-term future, but his hypothetical signing would be a safe play to provide depth and security.
Hoffman has played in 54 total games throughout his career and started 16. That is valuable experience that would be welcomed in a room that is relatively young. Bringing in McCarthy's former lineman doesn't discount Pittsburgh from drafting a prospect, either, which certainly works out if the Steelers are looking for several options.

Steelers Need A Strong Offensive Line For Many Reasons
Pittsburgh is always going to try and pound the rock, which is a main reason why a stout group of big men up front is necessary. Additionally, there is a very legitimate chance that the Steelers have a veteran quarterback under center in 2026. The expectation is that Aaron Rodgers will be returning, and fortifying the unit that blocks for him has to be looked at as pivotal. Hoffman doesn't solve all of the issues, but signing him will relieve a little bit of stress.
