The Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing for their Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons. There has been a lot of hype about all the talent coming in to help with Aaron Rodgers' final ride, as well as this new coaching staff full of fresh, new ideas to replace the stale tactics of before. That hopefully means that the quarterback and receiving corps should get on the same page, which could finally lead to that elusive playoff win. We can't get too far ahead of ourselves, as it all starts with Week 1.

Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers drops back and gets ready to unleash a pass as the team goes through a workout during a 2025 training camp practice at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, PA.
One of these key pieces is expected to be receiver Michael Pittman Jr. His ability to work in in the quick passing game perfectly meshes with how Rodgers wants to play at this stage of his career. However, the new Pittsburgh receiver has been dealing with a hamstring injury all throughout the preseason. That kind of injury has a tendency to linger, so that will be a storyline to watch throughout the week.
After practice on Labor Day, Pittman spoke about how he feels about the injury while giving his status for the upcoming match.
"I feel like I'm feeling good," Pittman said. "Obviously, Coach [Mike McCarthy] is going to make the final say on that, but I feel like it's coming along good."
As long as Pittman is feeling good and he does not show any signs of slowing down in practice, he should be ready to start in Week 1. Because it's the first game and it's a muscle injury, he will likely be limited in the game just to make sure he doesn't re-aggravate it and have to miss a significant portion of the game. At the beginning of the season, it's better to be safe than sorry.
The veteran receiver did practice on Monday according to Nick Farabaugh, and he has been practicing since the end of the preseason. So far, it looks like he will be able to suit up and play as much as needed on Sunday. It wouldn't be surprising to see him take it light throughout the week just to be cautious, but once the ball is kicked off, it's full send from there.
The Steelers appeared to be a very healthy team today in the period of practice open to the media.

Pittman's playstyle does not help with this issue at all. His expertise is running quick, twitchy routes to create separation and make something happen in the open field. That hamstring is going to get worked a lot if he gets a normal workload. It should not be shocking to see him get subbed out when the Steelers get into some of these other personnel groupings or if they have a multi-score lead.
Steelers Will Rely On Young Receivers Early On
There has been a lot of talk about Rodgers getting on the same page with Roman Wilson and Germie Bernard. If Pittman is limited during the game, this will be the first true test that both wideouts have with the veteran quarterback in 2026. While Wilson is expected to be the WR3, this game could ultimately decide who gets more reps and targets throughout the season.

According to Rodgers, Bernard has the ability to learn from his mistakes and adjust quickly. If Pittman ends up playing fewer snaps than expected due to the uncertainty of his hamstring, the rookie will get more chances to make these mistakes and learn from them, so he can be a much better receiver in Week 2. While Pittsburgh definitely needs the recent trade acquisition, one limited game may be good for the team.
What do you think about Pittman feeling good about his hamstring despite being unable to confirm if he will play in Week 1? Let us know on X at @Steelers_ChrisB.
