The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of the most-followed sports franchises in the world and worth the most in the AFC North. The black and gold faithful reside everywhere, but there's nothing like being in the Steel City and experiencing just how passionate fans are about the organization. There are several local media members that constantly interact with fans, which only enhances the experience. On Saturday morning, it unfortunately was reported that Audacy, the popular radio broadcaster that operates several stations throughout the country and Western Pennsylvania, is planning to file for bankruptcy.

Pittsburgh Steelers home grounds, formerly known as Heinz Field, changed to Acrisure Stadium in 2022.
Neena Hagen of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on a story that came out of the Wall Street Journal. Audacy has apparently failed to pay debt that nears roughly $2 billion. Hagen quoted the original story from the Wall Street Journal explaining the situation and how it may affect listeners and big-time radio shows going forward.
"The company won’t dissolve altogether — executives have negotiated a bankruptcy plan with their lenders, who plan to take ownership of the company after restructuring its operations — so local listeners aren’t expected to notice immediate changes."
The key word there is immediate changes. Any time ownership shifts in an organization, there are expected to be changes. Some are for the better and others can be viewed as negative. Overall, that piece of the story is good news because of how much Steelers fans love local radio shows.

Popular Steelers Talk Shows Will Hopefully See No Changes
There are several radio shows that fans tune into on a daily and weekly basis. One of the biggest features Andrew Fillipponi and Chris Mueller. Their show, The PM Team w/Poni & Mueller, is not short of hot takes, but is listened to religiously. The two speak to the average Steelers fans that are sick of non-losing seasons being the standard.
Ron Cook, Joe Starkey and Paul Zeise are just a few other personalities that resonate with the Pittsburgh faithful. While Audacy isn't expected to fold in any way, it's an unsettling piece of news that comes as unexpected. Hagen noted that the radio industry is having a difficult times keeping up with how listeners want to get content, which, in turn, has affected advertising revenue.
"Radio stations have begun to bleed advertising dollars as many listeners shift to podcasts, streaming and social media platforms. Radio advertising revenue declined 4.5% in 2023 with even steeper losses expected in the next few years, according to an analysis by S&P Global Market Intelligence," Hagen wrote.
This kind of data could foreshadow more ramifications for radio broadcasters. Audacy will soon be under new leadership and operations could change. The hope in Pittsburgh is that everyone's favorite radio shows and personalities are not affected by the restructure. Although, Head Coach Mike Tomlin might not be the biggest fan because of how much he is criticized on a weekly basis.
