The Pittsburgh Steelers had a successful 2025 NFL Draft when it comes to selecting individuals that play positions of need. Two defensive linemen were taken, as well as a running back and quarterback. That doesn't mean, however, that General Manager Omar Khan is done finalizing the roster heading into the summer. The biggest question remains if Aaron Rodgers will be coming to the Steel City or not, but the team has some other underrated needs that will likely be addressed in the coming weeks. Veteran free agents typically wait until after the draft to see what an attractive destination may be, and Pittsburgh could be one for certain guys.

The Steelers will be on the phone with several potential roster additions post-draft to see which players may be a fit within the locker room. There are no pressing needs (aside from a fourth quarterback), but depth pieces can be critical in the event of possible in-season injuries. Pittsburgh may be looking to bring in a couple of the following available players - without Rodgers being included.
1.) Brandon Scherff - Offensive Guard
Pittsburgh has made some underwhelming signings on the interior offensive line throughout the 2025 offseason. Brandon Scherff is a 10-year veteran that has been selected to five Pro Bowls; he also has an All-Pro nod. The Steelers have their starting guards in Isaac Seumalo and Mason McCormick, but it can never hurt to have a quality veteran backup on the roster.
Scherff would be an upgrade over Max Scharping, who could currently be looked at as the team's backup left guard. Scherff is well into his 30s and would come to town on a one-year deal, but it could make sense for him given the youth of McCormick. He might have a legitimate chance to get playing time if the second-year lineman struggles.
2.) Isaiah Wynn - Offensive Tackle
The Steelers currently have Dylan Cook and Spencer Anderson on the roster to help with swing tackle duties, but many believed Pittsburgh would take a stab at a tackle via the draft. That didn't occur, which means an inexpensive option like Isaiah Wynn could come into the fold. After spending four years with the New England Patriots and two with the Miami Dolphins, the former first-round pick is looking for a new home.
Pittsburgh has Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu set to be the starters, but depth on the line can never be understated. The big men upfront constantly deal with injuries, as fans saw with Fautanu in his first professional season.

3.) Arthur Maulet - Cornerback
The Steelers love some sense of comfortability. Arthur Maulet spent two seasons with the Baltimore Ravens after playing in 17 games for Pittsburgh in 2022. The cornerback room has been rounded out nicely, especially after the signing of Darius Slay, but having a guy with special teams experience like Maulet could be valuable. It doesn't hurt that he played for a division rival for the last two seasons.
Maulet is nearly 32 years old and will not have many options overall, which is why he could accept a role on the Steelers, even if it is minimal. He has never been a standout corner, but his familiarity with the Steel City and Head Coach Mike Tomlin could be one of the reasons why Khan decides to reach out and potentially offer him a one-year deal. It should be noted that Maulet didn't leave the Steel City on the best terms in 2023, but that doesn't mean a reunion is out of the question.

Steelers Do Not Have Too Many Pressing Needs As Organized Team Activities Near
The fan base is hoping that Rodgers gets an answer to Pittsburgh sooner rather than later. Offseason development is crucial for every team, but especially one that has a new quarterback under center. Khan and co. have done a very good job addressing positions of need, but the organization better hope Rodgers comes to town, or the quarterback room will look extremely shaky as the regular season approaches.
