The Pittsburgh Steelers have one of the most promising draft classes in the entire NFL. After selecting Derrick Harmon in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the team then selected Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson and Ohio State edge rusher Jack Sawyer with their next two picks, solidifying themselves among the top potential draft classes in the league. The Steelers were lucky enough to select quarterback Will Howard in the sixth round as well, in what many believe to be one of the top steals of the event.

As the rookies from Pittsburgh's 2025 draft class continue to prepare for training camp, undrafted free agent Sebastian Castro continues to turn heads and fight his way towards a roster spot as well. Castro, who signed with the Steelers after going undrafted, is a promising young safety that has shown flashes of his potential throughout the offseason. Castro was a star at the college level, as he played a major role in Iowa's success throughout his five seasons as a Hawkeye.
As Castro continues fighting his way towards a roster spot, fellow rookie Yahya Black took a moment to share his thoughts on the undrafted Iowa star.
"He don't talk much," Black stated. "You can get him to talk. He doesn't talk much."
Black then went on to comment on Castro's drive and determination, highlighting the rookie's efforts thus far.
"But you tell him to go get it, he's gonna go get it."
Black's comments are promising to hear, as many believe that Castro faces an uphill battle in his attempt to make the initial 53-man roster. Despite the challenge, the recent blockbuster deal involving former Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick may prove to work in Castro's favor, as the rookie may find an easier path to a roster spot with the three-time All-Pro no longer playing in front of him. As the start of training camp continues to loom closer, Castro is expected to continue working towards a roster spot throughout the remainder of the offseason.

The Steelers currently find themselves with DeShon Elliott, Juan Thornhill, and Miles Killebrew ahead of Castro as their top safeties following the Fitzpatrick trade. Pittsburgh received cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith in exchange for Fitzpatrick, as the Steelers now have one of the better tight end rooms in all of football. Ramsey is expected to make a major impact on Pittsburgh's defensive unit as well, as the former Miami Dolphins defensive back is an elite veteran who has shown no signs of slowing down as he prepares to enter his 10th season.
Another Steelers Star Defender Unlikely To Be Traded Amid Rumors
While the highlight of the week so far has been the blockbuster deal involving Fitzpatrick and Ramsey, Steelers' superstar edge rusher TJ Watt finds himself at the center of multiple trade rumors circulating around social media. Watt, who hasn't been present throughout any of the team's offseason programs so far, is a generational player who is entering the final season of a contract extension signed back in 2021. Pittsburgh is expected to figure out Watt's situation sooner rather than later, as the four-time First Team All-Pro is highly unlikely to emerge as a true trade candidate.
Entering his ninth NFL season, Watt is widely regarded as one of the best outside linebackers in all of football. A seven-time Pro Bowler, Watt will almost certainly require a hefty contract as Pittsburgh continues to attempt to work out an extension with the likely future Hall of Famer.

As Castro continues to fight his way towards a roster spot, the Steelers find themselves with new faces at multiple positions entering the 2025 season. Castro is a promising rookie who may make a strong impact if he is given a chance. While Castro continues to emerge as a candidate to make the 53-man roster, fans should monitor both Castro and Watt closely throughout the remainder of the offseason.
