The Pittsburgh Steelers have begun 2025 training camp, and it has not been disappointing with all of the action. With a pretty different roster this year, this annual event gives fans their first chance to see the new players in action. One of the biggest stories this offseason has been the addition of veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Given his skills and impressive career thus far, it’s no surprise that he’s been the center of attention throughout camp and the offseason.

With all the attention surrounding Rodgers, there have also been plenty of concerns. At 41 years old, he’s the oldest active player in the NFL, and many have questioned whether he still has the arm strength and mobility to keep up with the speed of today’s game. However, during a recent appearance on 93.7 The Fan, Steelers insider Mark Kaboly shut down those doubts. He not only shared what he believes is Rodgers’ greatest strength, but also explained what needs to happen for that strength to truly stand out.
"The arm is probably his best attribute right now... and I don't see anything that says his arm strength is not going to be there the entire game and the brain," Kaboly said. "It's just a matter of if he's going to get the opportunity to have guys help him make some plays."
Rodgers has had a legendary career up to this point and is widely considered a future Hall of Famer. One of his most defining traits during his "prime" was his arm strength, something that set him apart from many other quarterbacks. Some of his most iconic moments came from launching deep passes with incredible power and still made it to his target. However, as with any athlete, aging often raises questions about a decline in physicality, especially in areas like arm strength, which is where much of the recent concern has come from.

Rodgers is a fresh face on the Steelers' roster, and while the team has focused on strengthening both offense and defense this offseason, there’s been a clear emphasis on surrounding Rodgers with the offensive weapons he needs to succeed. Earlier in the offseason, Rodgers hinted that this could be his final season, but given his unpredictability and some of his recent comments, it’s tough to say for sure. Regardless, there’s a strong focus on winning now, and the team is pushing hard to build chemistry and find success quickly.
Rodgers is already building a strong connection with DK Metcalf, one of the new weapons added to the offense. Metcalf, who is a veteran receiver known for his combination of speed and strength, has been working closely with him, even before Rodgers officially signed with the Steelers. Rodgers and Metcalf were training and tossing the football around together during the offseason. Now, with training camp underway, they’re not only putting in work on the field, but are also suitemates, further strengthening their bond and chemistry.

Rodgers' first pass of training camp during team drills was highly anticipated, but it ended in an interception by linebacker Patrick Queen. Still, Rodgers responded in a positive way, saying that while it won’t be his last interception, there will be plenty of touchdowns to come as well. Not long after, he backed that up by delivering a perfect throw to Metcalf during the offense's red zone battle with the defense, a notable play that quickly caught attention across the league, including Head Coach Mike Tomlin.
The Steelers Are Working For 2025 Success
Of course, every team wants to win, but for the Steelers, simply making the playoffs hasn’t been enough. While they've consistently earned playoff spots in recent years, winning during postseason is something the Steelers have not recently been able to do. With Rodgers nearing the end of his career, along with other veterans on the roster, the urgency to make a serious playoff push is higher than ever. The decision to add multiple veterans on short-term deals only emphasizes how important a deep playoff run is this season.
