The Pittsburgh Steelers have had multiple standout players during training camp this offseason. Ranging from veteran players to rookies, the team has had unexpected players on both sides of the ball who have continued to perform well. A wide variety of players will continue to fight for a spot on the Steelers' 53-man roster throughout the remainder of the preseason.

One of the biggest standouts during training camp has been none other than rookie defensive tackle Yahya Black. Black was a fifth-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, and has continued to impress the coaching staff throughout the entire offseason. Insider Ray Fittipaldo was recently asked for his opinion as to who he feels has stood out the most throughout camp, where the reporter was able to give an inside look on who has made the biggest impact. Black was surely included.

"I'm going to go Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller, Yahya Black," Fittipaldo stated. "When we think about risers, it's kind of like guys who are maybe surprises, or maybe you weren't expecting it the way we've seen it with these guys."

Fittipaldo then went on to mention that the training camp standouts are typically guys fighting for a roster spot, or players that are in a similar position as Roman Wilson.

"It tends to be guys who are maybe on that roster bubble, or guys like Roman Wilson, who has a spot on the team, but their role was undefined," Fittipaldo explained. "So for me, those are the three biggest names that come to mind."

After a slow start, Wilson ended up having an excellent showing at training camp. The second-year wide receiver made multiple impressive catches throughout numerous drills, while also hauling in 72 yards on two receptions in the Steelers' second preseason game of the year against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Saturday. Wilson will have something to prove throughout the entire 2025 season, as he missed the majority of his rookie year due to injuries.

Scotty Miller is a six-year veteran who spent time with the Bucs and the Atlanta Falcons before signing in Pittsburgh last season. Miller made an impact in Week 2 against the Bucs as well, with the veteran catching two passes for a total of 38 yards. The former Falcon will look to continue on an upward trend in Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday to ensure his spot on the roster.

Multiple Steelers Defensive Rookies Continue To Stand Out In The Preseason

Derrick Harmon made his presence known in Week 2 of the preseason. He was a first-round pick in 2025, and the rookie has continued to make a strong impact throughout training camp in similar fashion to Black. Harmon was credited with the first sack of his career on Saturday and is expected to emerge as a legitimate starting option by the time Week 1 rolls around for Pittsburgh.

Harmon was a major contributor throughout his college career at Oregon. The talented defensive lineman was a top remaining prospect on the draft board when Pittsburgh selected him. The rookie was able to work his way through the Bucs' offensive line multiple times, and many feel like Harmon will become a serious contender for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

The trio of Wilson, Miller and Black will look to continue playing at a high level in Week 3 against the Panthers. Wilson's roster spot is likely solidified, as the second-year receiver will look to bounce back from an injury ridden rookie campaign. Black will keep making a name for himself throughout the preseason as well and may be in line for a big performance on Thursday night.
