It's going to be hard for fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers to truly keep up with how many different names have and will continue to be connected to the organization. It is not normal in the Steel City to have an overhaul of a staff and it is even more strange to hire a new head coach to lead that group. Mike Tomlin stepping down didn't just alter the way things are going to be done in the future, it represented a seismic shift for one of the sports world's most consistent franchises. Now, Art Rooney II and Omar Khan have to get it right.

It seems as if the team is locking in on a few candidates, but others could emerge throughout the NFL's Conference Championship week. The Steelers are anxiously awaiting for those two contests to be over, and not because they are interested to see which two collectives make it to the Super Bowl. Pittsburgh has its eyes specifically set on the Los Angeles Rams.
Both Chris Shula and Nate Scheelhaase have been connected to the Steel City. Shula operates as the defensive coordinator for Sean McVay, while the rising star in Scheelhaase is the passing game coordinator. Steeler Nation has already brought up the possibility of both of the promising coaches coming to Pittsburgh, and it remains a strong possibility.
Bejamin Allbright is a well-connected and respected insider who consistently covers the Denver Broncos. After the Tennessee Titans hired Robert Saleh on Monday evening, Allbright gave an update on the Steelers, and it's not just seeming as if Shula is Rooney's top choice, but the reporter left plenty of room for the reader to believe Scheelhaase would be coming, too.
Steelers: Seems to be trending Chris Shula way. Fits the prototype. Could he bring Nate Scheelhaase as OC? Flores still lurking

Bills: I think Anthony Weaver and Ejiro Evero get interviews, Joe Brady too. Keep an eye on Denver QB coach Davis Webb to be in play here too.
It wouldn't come as a surprise if a young defensive mind was hired to be the Steelers' next head coach. It fits the mold of what the organization has always looked for. However, allowing him to bring a 35-year-old coordinator with him would be exciting for fans. Without a quarterback in place, there still would be some hope for 2026 with two McVay disciples running the show.

In 2026, the Steelers would essentially have a piece of the 2025 version of the Rams' braintrust, aside from McVay and Offensive Coordinator Mike LaFleur. That's not a bad way to follow up Tomlin's departure. In fact, the only negative would be the threat of losing Scheelhaase after just one season because he will continue to get head-coaching looks as the years progress. The idea of Shula is continuing to gain steam.

It was reported on Monday that Shula was really impressing Pittsburgh, and Allbright's reporting holds true to that. Fans and analysts alike are truly starting to board the Shula train.
I am all in on Chris Shula being the next Steelers head coach. Who do you want to see them hire?

Pittsburgh can't welcome Shula in for another interview, or Scheelhaase for that matter, until the 26th of January, which is a day after the NFC Championship Game It's very possible that the Rams enter a Super Bowl knowing both masterminds are departing thanks to Rooney and Khan's efforts.

Steelers Could Be The Last Team To Make A Decision
The Buffalo Bills threw another wrench into the coaching carousel after firing Sean McDermott early on Monday morning. That job will be in high demand because of Josh Allen. With that said, Pittsburgh is historically a patient franchise. Following up Tomlin is not going to be like flipping on a light switch, so the front office is going to take its time to make sure that it gets this hire, or hires, correct.
Do you think the Steelers need to do everything possible to bring in both Shula and Scheelhaase? Let us know in the comments below!
