"Fu*k That": Former Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin Completely Cursed Out By Browns' Todd Monken

The Pittsburgh Steelers fell to the New England Patriots in Week 2 of the 2026 NFL season. In shocking fashion, the franchise's AFC North rival in the Baltimore Ravens also lost to the New Orleans Saints. The division finished up, however, with two victories. The Cincinnati Bengals took down the Houston Texans, and, surprisingly, the Cleveland Browns traveled south to take care of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It was a pretty wild Sunday overall for the four organizations. Moving forward, there should be plenty of discussion as to which one of the collectives will step up and earn the crown by the end of the year.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy enjoyed a great Week 1 win in what was his first contest as the Steelers' head coach. Unfortunately, his group struggled mightily in New England. The Ravens also losing was a plus, but the Bengals are on the horizon for Pittsburgh, which should be a very tough task. Additionally, Cleveland is somehow in the discussion because of an impressive take-down of the Buccaneers.

Something that is new for Steelers fans on Sundays is former head coach Mike Tomlin giving his analysis on Football Night in America. In Week 1, he was on site for the New York Giants' matchup versus the Dallas Cowboys. The Steelers legend didn't hold back on live television when he was discussing how his former rival performed. Tomlin directly took a shot at the Browns for not playing all that well.

When Cleveland suffered an embarrassing Week 1 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Tomlin referenced a former JuJu Smith-Schuster quote about the Browns simply not being able to get out of their own way. 

Well, it appears that head coach Todd Monken used that for bulletin board material for his roster prior to the Week 2 victory. The head coach directly called out Tomlin for his publicized comments when he spoke to the media following his first win.

“Browns are gonna Browns — fu*k that, OK?” Monken firmly stated. “The guys took that to heart.”

Monken could not have been more blunt. He wanted to make a statement about Tomlin saying that Cleveland hasn't change one bit. In this instance, it wasn't subtle, nor was it kind. The Browns leader wanted to protect his locker room, and did so by defending it with all of the cameras rolling. Steelers fan might roll their eyes, but it sure is interesting that Tomlin's words on NBC found a way to propel an AFC North rival.

Tomlin is not going to be hidden anytime soon. He has fully jumped into his role with Football Night in America. His words about the Browns as he quoted Smith-Schuster could absolutely come to be true as the season goes on. For now, though, Monken is having the most recent laugh. Cleveland found a way to upset the Buccaneers and sit with the same record as the Tomlin-less Steelers.

While Tomlin is no longer directly connected to Pittsburgh on a week-by-week basis, his words are apparently impactful. The analysis from the future Hall of Famer could be received well, or poorly. In this scenario, Monken made sure to let everyone know that his group did not take kindly to the Week 1 words from the Super Bowl XLIII champion.

Steelers Did Miss Tomlin On Sunday In New England

There are going to be times in 2026 when Pittsburgh wishes it had Tomlin roaming the sidelines. For some reason, the players came out flat and no one seemed ready to play versus the Patriots. McCarthy's predecessor always had a way to motivate the men around him. That certainly wasn't the case for the Steelers in the bad loss, but the Browns were ready to go in Florida. Tomlin may be one of the people who is responsible for that.
