The Pittsburgh Steelers may have another wide receiver target to watch as the NFL trade deadline approaches, and this one might not require the kind of draft capital needed to land a bigger name.

According to Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan, the Steelers could pursue Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks, a potential option for Pittsburgh as general manager Omar Khan continues to evaluate ways to improve the team's receiving corps. Howie Roseman would likely take the call.

“The Steelers could trade for Eagles WR Dontayvion Wicks. Per up-and-coming Steelers insider Nick Farabaugh,” Fillipponi wrote on X.

Wicks is an intriguing name because he could give Pittsburgh another outside receiving option without forcing the organization to make an expensive move for a more established star. The Steelers have been connected to several wide receivers in recent days, including Indianapolis Colts wideout Josh Downs and Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Brian Thomas Jr., but the cost of acquiring those players could complicate negotiations.

Wicks could offer a different path. Nick Farabaugh recently discussed the possibility of Pittsburgh pursuing the Eagles receiver, per Fillipponi, suggesting that Wicks could make sense as a relatively inexpensive addition.

For a Steelers team looking to strengthen its offense without sacrificing significant draft capital, that possibility is worth monitoring.

Wicks originally entered the NFL as a fifth-round pick by the Green Bay Packers in 2023. He spent three seasons in Green Bay before Philadelphia acquired him in April 2026, sending a fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick to the Packers. The Eagles also signed him to a one-year contract extension, keeping him under contract through the 2027 season.

That contract situation could be important for Pittsburgh. Wicks would not necessarily be a short-term rental, giving the Steelers a chance to evaluate him for the remainder of this season and potentially keep him around next year.

Steelers Could Find Cost-Effective Answer At Wide Receiver

The Steelers' interest in adding another receiver makes sense given the questions surrounding the position. DK Metcalf remains a major part of the offense, but Pittsburgh needs more consistency and depth around him as it tries to make the most of its current opportunity.

Adding another receiver would give Aaron Rodgers another option in the passing game and could help prevent opposing defenses from focusing too heavily on Metcalf. Wicks' ability to line up outside and attack man coverage is particularly relevant, as Pittsburgh could use another receiver capable of creating separation when the defense plays tight coverage.

Wicks has shown flashes of that potential during his NFL career. Across his first three seasons with Green Bay, he recorded 108 receptions, 1,328 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, demonstrating the ability to contribute as a downfield target.

His production dipped in 2025, when he finished with 30 catches for 332 yards and two touchdowns, so far this year he has 19 catches for 284 yards and one touchdown, so the Steelers would need to determine whether he could provide more consistent results in a different offense.

There are risks considering Wicks has dealt with availability concerns, already missing a couple games this year as well as being ruled out for the Eagles game this Sunday due to an ankle injury, and adding another receiver does not automatically solve Pittsburgh's offensive problems. The Steelers would need to assess his health, role and fit before committing even a late-round pick.

Still, the potential price makes this a different conversation from pursuing a player who could cost a third-round selection or more. Pittsburgh has other roster needs to address, and holding on to valuable draft picks could be important heading into the offseason.

Wicks would also have an opportunity to establish himself in a new environment. If the Steelers believe his best football is still ahead of him, a relatively inexpensive trade could give the team a chance to find out without making a major investment.

Nothing in Fillipponi's report confirms that a deal is imminent, and Philadelphia would have to be willing to move Wicks before negotiations could advance. However, Farabaugh's discussion suggests that the Steelers have at least one more potential option to consider as the deadline nears.

Pittsburgh does not necessarily need to land the biggest name available to improve its receiving room. If the front office believes Wicks can win his matchups, stay healthy and contribute immediately, he could become a worthwhile alternative to the more expensive targets dominating the trade conversation.
