The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently taking part in their offseason programs, and things have been progressing smoothly. While that’s generally expected during this time of year, it’s important to remember that it’s still difficult to make judgments this early in the process. However, these offseason sessions serve a valuable purpose, as they give players a chance to showcase their skills, develop chemistry with teammates, and make a strong impression on coaches. At the same time, they offer a glimpse into the team’s potential, giving Steelers fans something to be excited about as the new season approaches.

Fans and analysts alike have been sharing their thoughts on which players they believe will make a significant impact this season. One of those weighing in is Steelers insider Mark Kaboly, who recently made an appearance on 93.7 The Fan. During the interview, Kaboly was asked which players had caught his eye during offseason programs. In response, he shared a list of "winners" who have impressed him so far, and a few of the names on that list might come as a surprise.

"[Roman Wilson], he and Calvin Austin were really good," Kaboly shared. "I like Mason McCormick. I thought he just looked a little different, felt more comfortable. Broderick [Jones], I think he's still getting used to it. I think he needs more time, but I think he's more comfortable. At least it feels like he looks more comfortable."

Kaboly didn’t stop at just a few names, he continued to highlight several other players who have made a strong impression during offseason programs. Among those mentioned were defensive lineman Logan Lee, running back Evan Hull, safety Juan Thornhill, and return specialist Max Hurleman, who has notably been seen getting reps with the wide receivers. These mentions are especially meaningful given the extensive roster changes the Steelers have undergone this offseason. With so many new and old faces in the building, it’s an exciting time for fans and coaches alike to watch these players start to carve out their roles and potentially become key contributors for the upcoming season.

The roster moves made by the Steelers this offseason have resulted in several notable gaps throughout the roster, gaps that have become a major topic of conversation among analysts, insiders, and fans. While it's true that these programs don't always serve as a perfect predictor of regular season performance, they are far from meaningless. These sessions play a crucial role in helping players build an understanding of the team’s playbook, adjust to coaching styles, and most importantly, develop chemistry with their teammates. The ability to grasp the scheme and build camaraderie is something that can’t be taught through raw athleticism alone. It’s about communication, trust, and fitting into the culture of the team, some foundational elements that are built during the offseason and can make a major difference once the games begin to count.

The most talked-about roster gap in recent weeks has been at the wide receiver position. The Steelers made headlines earlier this offseason by acquiring veteran DK Metcalf in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, giving them a strong receiver. While there had been speculation that Pittsburgh might explore free agency to fill out the receiving corps, the current focus appears to be on evaluating the talent already on the roster.

Recently, Wide Receivers Coach Zach Azzanni named Calvin Austin III as the team’s number two receiver, showing confidence in the young receiver. However, with talents like rookie Roman Wilson also turning heads during offseason programs, the competition is still wide open, and it’s clear that the final depth chart is far from set in stone.

Steelers Are Loading Up On Young Guys Up Front

A few of the names Kaboly highlighted, including Mason McCormick and Broderick Jones, are promising young offensive linemen. In recent seasons, the Steelers have faced a number of injuries along the offensive line, often forcing players to shift positions or step into unfamiliar roles. As a result, the offensive line has been under a microscope, and heading into this season, its performance will be more important than ever. With 41 year old quarterback Aaron Rodgers under center, the linemen not only need to provide solid protection, but also stay healthy themselves to maintain consistency. If this group can avoid injuries and build chemistry, they have the potential to anchor a dominant offensive front for years to come.
